Syriac Federation of Sweden calls for engagement and participation!
There are stories that must never be silenced. Stories written in blood, tears, and love. Stories that are not only about the past but are shaped and lived through us — in every moment, in every action. Stories that we carry as an inheritance and that define our lives and our very existence.
For us, for our people, it is about surviving to exist. But do you have time to only survive? Or do you have time to truly exist —
To stand there, to be present, to continue carrying our history forward?
It is not just about existing, but about living with purpose, standing in community, and fighting to ensure that our voices are heard and that our stories are not lost in silence.
We are the grandchildren of those who survived the genocide.
We are the descendants of those who lost everything — their homes, their loved ones — but who never lost faith in the future.
Their struggle is our struggle.
Their stories are our stories.
Their voices must never be silenced.
But the question is: Do we have time to give space to this story?
Or will we let it fade away with each generation?
Because we carry something that is both beautiful and painful.
A hope for the future mixed with the sorrow of lost lives.
It is a story that demands to be lived, to be passed on through our actions, our words, and our community.
When we stand together, when we are strong in our unity, we become the bearers of our ancestors’ legacy.
Those who gave their lives so that we could live, live through us.
Their story continues through our lives.
But if we fall silent, if we allow ourselves to be divided, if we let go of each other, not only will the story lose its power — we will lose ourselves.
Now is the time to stand up, more than ever.
We must find our community, our alliance, our strength in one another.
Because our existence is not a given.
It demands that we fight for it.
For our culture, for our people, for those who are still being persecuted, murdered, and losing their homes.
So that our children and grandchildren one day can say:
“They fought so that we could exist.”
Our roots run deep — roots once planted in the fertile lands of Beth Nahrin, in Tur Abdin, Palmyra, Homs, Edessa, and Aleppo.
Those roots live on, in us, through us.
And it is through these roots that we can create something new — a tree of hope, of strength, of future.
But we must all water that tree, protect it, nurture it together.
It is time to exist.
Time not just to be here, but to be present, to stand side by side, to carry our shared history.
The more we hold on to each other, the stronger we become.
Because we are a chain, and every link is important.
And now, we turn to you:
Do you want to help carry the story forward?
Do you want to be part of the chain that allows our children to one day say:
“They fought so that we could exist”?
Give us a little of your time.
Give us a piece of your hand, a part of your heart.
Because when we give to each other, we build something greater than ourselves.
You don’t have to carry everything on your own — but if we all carry a little, the burden becomes lighter for everyone.
Whether you want to serve on a board, join a working group, contribute ideas, start an idea group, work with language, media, integration, economy, youth issues, or simply be there as support — you are needed. You are important.
To you who hesitate, who think: “Surely someone else will do it.”
If not you — who? If not now — when?
It is time to exist.
Time to remember, time to live, time to create.
Time to carry forward our story — so that it never dies.
So let us say together:
We will not let it die. We will carry it forward. We stand together!
